PLC / Analog Signals & Measurement Quality
Check 4–20 mA scaling with an explicit engineering-range example
A current input can be electrically healthy while its displayed engineering value is wrong because the configured range differs from the transmitter.
Environment and inputs: Industrial PLC / automation guidance · Verify the exact controller, module, firmware, engineering tool and machine documentation. Linked vendor examples apply to their stated products and library versions; observation, state changes and physical work require distinct authorization.
Observe and record
Compare the transmitter range, input channel mode, documented raw conversion and each software scaling stage using approved configuration records.
Interpret the evidence
For an assumed linear 4–20 mA signal representing 0–100 percent, 12 mA represents 50 percent. This example does not define a controller's raw counts or fault thresholds.
Resolve and verify
Correct the demonstrated range or arithmetic mismatch and validate several known points through an authorized calibration procedure, including quality and overrange handling.
Machine and data safeguards
Do not inject a current signal into an unknown or energized loop outside the qualified instrument-maintenance procedure.
