PLC / PLC Programming, Timing & State Logic
Diagnose a PLC counter whose count disagrees with production
A counter can overcount through bounce, miss short pulses or reset because its instance or reset input changes.
Environment and inputs: Industrial PLC / automation guidance · Verify the exact controller, module, firmware, engineering tool and machine documentation. Linked vendor examples apply to their stated products and library versions; observation, state changes and physical work require distinct authorization.
Observe and record
Compare known approved production evidence with raw input transitions, counter call context, reset state and documented datatype limits.
Interpret the evidence
Counter edge semantics, saturation and rollover behavior vary by instruction and type. A standard cyclic counter is not automatically a high-speed acquisition device.
Resolve and verify
Repair the demonstrated acquisition or logic defect and validate with known counts at the intended operating rate through an approved test.
Machine and data safeguards
Do not change production totals or reset counters without preserving the required operational and quality record.
