PLC / PLC Programming, Timing & State Logic
Check latch priority when PLC set and reset requests overlap
A latched state can behave unexpectedly when both requests become active in the same execution. Different blocks may prioritize set or reset.
Environment and inputs: Industrial PLC / automation guidance · Verify the exact controller, module, firmware, engineering tool and machine documentation. Linked vendor examples apply to their stated products and library versions; observation, state changes and physical work require distinct authorization.
Observe and record
Review the exact instruction or function block and capture the approved set, reset and output states without changing them.
Interpret the evidence
Set-dominant and reset-dominant behavior are distinct. Separate writes elsewhere in the program can override the block's apparent result.
Resolve and verify
Use the matching library semantics and define the intended priority explicitly in a tested design, including startup and fault-recovery cases.
Machine and data safeguards
Do not alter a protective latch's priority or reset behavior without the required machine engineering validation.
