PLC / PLC Programming, Timing & State Logic
Diagnose a PLC status word mapped to the wrong bit meanings
An application can interpret a device word using the wrong revision, byte order or bit numbering convention.
Environment and inputs: Industrial PLC / automation guidance · Verify the exact controller, module, firmware, engineering tool and machine documentation. Linked vendor examples apply to their stated products and library versions; observation, state changes and physical work require distinct authorization.
Observe and record
Compare the exact device's data layout, declared word type and every extraction mask in the approved mapping.
Interpret the evidence
Bit numbers, status packing and reserved fields are device-specific. A familiar tag name does not prove the selected bit has that meaning.
Resolve and verify
Correct the managed layout and validate documented normal and fault patterns using an isolated test or approved recorded data.
Machine and data safeguards
Do not mask out an unknown diagnostic bit to make a device appear healthy.
