PLC / HMI, SCADA, Alarms & Historian
Investigate an alarm visible live but absent from history
Live annunciation and historical storage can use separate settings, services and retention paths.
Environment and inputs: Industrial PLC / automation guidance · Verify the exact controller, module, firmware, engineering tool and machine documentation. Linked vendor examples apply to their stated products and library versions; observation, state changes and physical work require distinct authorization.
Observe and record
Record alarm identity, timestamps, configured history or journal route and available storage or gateway errors.
Interpret the evidence
A live alarm proves neither successful database delivery nor retained historical coverage. Filtering and acknowledgment settings can also affect the view.
Resolve and verify
Repair the demonstrated logging or query path and validate a controlled approved test event, including storage and later retrieval.
Machine and data safeguards
Do not create a real machine fault just to test journaling or claim a missing record proves no event occurred.
