Oracle Database / RMAN Backup & Recovery
Map database files before a restore or relocation
A recovery plan needs to account for all database files and their destinations. Inspect the target schema before selecting restore paths.
Environment and inputs: Oracle Database 19c baseline · SQL*Plus-compatible SQL unless RMAN, DGMGRL, ADRCI or a host shell is specified. Check release, patch level, edition and container first.
Start with this diagnostic
Use the stated SQL, RMAN, DGMGRL or host shell and replace sample names with approved targets. DBA and V$ views need authorized catalog access in the correct container. Do not grant broad privileges for an example.
REPORT SCHEMA;
Read the result
The RMAN report lists the target's recorded datafile and tablespace structure. It does not establish that a proposed destination has the capacity or correct permissions.
Resolve and verify
Compare the inventory with the intended restore environment, storage mounts and naming plan. Include required redo, control-file and recovery dependencies in the runbook.
Operational precautions
Do not restore over live production files or assume a file list alone proves the backup chain is complete.
