Oracle Database / RMAN Backup & Recovery
Turn a backup success into an end-to-end recovery drill
A recovery objective includes locating media, restoring, applying redo and validating the service. Metadata inspection is only the planning stage.
Environment and inputs: Oracle Database 19c baseline · SQL*Plus-compatible SQL unless RMAN, DGMGRL, ADRCI or a host shell is specified. Check release, patch level, edition and container first.
Start with this diagnostic
Use the stated SQL, RMAN, DGMGRL or host shell and replace sample names with approved targets. DBA and V$ views need authorized catalog access in the correct container. Do not grant broad privileges for an example.
REPORT SCHEMA;
LIST BACKUP SUMMARY;
Read the result
These RMAN commands provide a file and backup inventory without restoring content. They cannot measure the real recovery time by themselves.
Resolve and verify
Build an isolated destination and approved recovery plan, test encrypted-key access and restore the required scope. Validate application behavior and record elapsed time and remaining gaps.
Operational precautions
Prevent the drill from registering conflicting production services or overwriting live files. Clearly label the recovered copy and its recovery point.
