Oracle Database / RMAN Backup & Recovery
RMAN-06054: investigate an unknown required archived log
Recovery may request an archived log that the current repository does not know. Establish its thread and sequence before deciding whether recovery is complete.
Environment and inputs: Oracle Database 19c baseline · SQL*Plus-compatible SQL unless RMAN, DGMGRL, ADRCI or a host shell is specified. Check release, patch level, edition and container first.
Start with this diagnostic
Use the stated SQL, RMAN, DGMGRL or host shell and replace sample names with approved targets. DBA and V$ views need authorized catalog access in the correct container. Do not grant broad privileges for an example.
LIST ARCHIVELOG ALL;
Read the result
The RMAN listing shows known archived logs, not every log that may exist on disk, backup media or another repository.
Resolve and verify
Compare the requested sequence with backup media, standby copies and the intended recovery endpoint. Catalog verified missing metadata or use the supported recovery plan under the DBA.
Operational precautions
Do not open RESETLOGS simply because a requested log is unknown. First determine whether required redo can be obtained.
