Check time-zone file versions during migration planning
Data movement and upgrades can fail or require special handling when source and target time-zone versions differ. Collect the exact installed versions.
Environment and inputs: Oracle Database 19c baseline · SQL*Plus-compatible SQL unless RMAN, DGMGRL, ADRCI or a host shell is specified. Check release, patch level, edition and container first.
Start with this diagnostic
Use the stated SQL, RMAN, DGMGRL or host shell and replace sample names with approved targets. DBA and V$ views need authorized catalog access in the correct container. Do not grant broad privileges for an example.
SELECT filename, version, con_id FROM v$timezone_file;
Read the result
The view reports the time-zone file version visible in the current environment. It is distinct from the session timezone and database timezone settings.
Resolve and verify
Compare source and target versions with the supported migration and upgrade procedure. Plan conversion work in a test environment with representative timestamp data.
Operational precautions
Do not change DBTIMEZONE or edit Oracle time-zone files to simulate a version upgrade.
