ORA-28009: correct an administrative login path instead of using SYS casually
A login using SYS requires an appropriate administrative connection mode. Ordinary applications should use their intended least-privileged accounts.
Environment and inputs: Oracle Database 19c baseline · SQL*Plus-compatible SQL unless RMAN, DGMGRL, ADRCI or a host shell is specified. Check release, patch level, edition and container first.
Start with this diagnostic
Use the stated SQL, RMAN, DGMGRL or host shell and replace sample names with approved targets. DBA and V$ views need authorized catalog access in the correct container. Do not grant broad privileges for an example.
SELECT SYS_CONTEXT('USERENV','SESSION_USER') AS session_user, SYS_CONTEXT('USERENV','ISDBA') AS is_dba FROM dual;
Read the result
From an existing authorized session, this shows its authenticated identity and administrative status. It does not grant administrative access.
Resolve and verify
Use the environment's approved administrative login method only for authorized DBA work. Correct application configuration if it incorrectly attempts to use SYS.
Operational precautions
Do not embed SYS credentials in application configuration or add administrative mode to a runtime connection as a shortcut.
