Oracle Database / Accounts, Security & Access
Reproduce an Oracle login without exposing credentials
A support test that places a password in a shell command can leak it through history or process listings. Establish a prompt-based test path.
Environment and inputs: Oracle Database 19c baseline · SQL*Plus-compatible SQL unless RMAN, DGMGRL, ADRCI or a host shell is specified. Check release, patch level, edition and container first.
Start with this diagnostic
Use the stated SQL, RMAN, DGMGRL or host shell and replace sample names with approved targets. DBA and V$ views need authorized catalog access in the correct container. Do not grant broad privileges for an example.
sqlplus /nolog
Read the result
At the authorized client, this opens SQL*Plus without a password in the invocation. Use the approved interactive or external-authentication connection workflow afterward.
Resolve and verify
Confirm the intended target and account, collect the exact sanitized error and compare it with the application's actual driver behavior. Close the test session when finished.
Operational precautions
Do not spool secrets or paste full credential-bearing connect strings into tickets.
