ORA-27072: investigate the underlying operating-system I/O error
A low-level I/O failure can originate in storage, filesystems or access paths. The accompanying OS error is essential evidence.
Environment and inputs: Oracle Database 19c baseline · SQL*Plus-compatible SQL unless RMAN, DGMGRL, ADRCI or a host shell is specified. Check release, patch level, edition and container first.
Start with this diagnostic
Use the stated SQL, RMAN, DGMGRL or host shell and replace sample names with approved targets. DBA and V$ views need authorized catalog access in the correct container. Do not grant broad privileges for an example.
SELECT name, value FROM v$diag_info WHERE name IN ('Diag Trace','Diag Alert');
Read the result
The diagnostic locations help find the full database stack and associated OS details. The database message alone does not isolate the storage component.
Resolve and verify
Correlate timestamps with kernel, filesystem and storage-controller logs. Stabilize the storage path with infrastructure owners before database recovery work.
Operational precautions
Do not repeatedly retry writes or restart the database on unstable storage without an agreed recovery plan.
