ORA-14402: review an update that would move a row between partitions
Updating a partition key can require row movement, which may be disabled by design. Confirm the table setting and business operation.
Environment and inputs: Oracle Database 19c baseline · SQL*Plus-compatible SQL unless RMAN, DGMGRL, ADRCI or a host shell is specified. Check release, patch level, edition and container first.
Start with this diagnostic
Use the stated SQL, RMAN, DGMGRL or host shell and replace sample names with approved targets. DBA and V$ views need authorized catalog access in the correct container. Do not grant broad privileges for an example.
SELECT owner, table_name, row_movement FROM all_tables WHERE owner = 'APP_OWNER' AND table_name = 'APP_ORDERS';
Read the result
The flag identifies whether row movement is enabled for the table. Enabling it can affect assumptions about physical row identifiers.
Resolve and verify
Review why the key changes and whether the application or integrations rely on ROWID stability. Use a tested approved movement or data-correction design.
Operational precautions
Do not enable row movement globally or treat a mistaken partition-key update as a storage problem.
