ORA-14400: investigate a partition key outside available ranges
An insert can fail when its key does not map to an existing partition. Verify the table's partition design and actual input datatype.
Environment and inputs: Oracle Database 19c baseline · SQL*Plus-compatible SQL unless RMAN, DGMGRL, ADRCI or a host shell is specified. Check release, patch level, edition and container first.
Start with this diagnostic
Use the stated SQL, RMAN, DGMGRL or host shell and replace sample names with approved targets. DBA and V$ views need authorized catalog access in the correct container. Do not grant broad privileges for an example.
SELECT table_owner, table_name, partition_name, high_value FROM all_tab_partitions WHERE table_owner = 'APP_OWNER' AND table_name = 'APP_ORDERS' ORDER BY partition_position;
Read the result
HIGH_VALUE describes partition boundaries but is a LONG column in 19c, so generic text processing is limited. Composite and interval designs need additional metadata.
Resolve and verify
Compare the sanitized key and range semantics with the intended retention calendar. Add the approved partition or correct bad input, then retest boundary cases.
Operational precautions
Do not route all invalid values into a catch-all partition without reviewing data-quality and retention requirements.
