ORA-02068: preserve the remote error beneath the database-link wrapper
A severe remote error message normally identifies the link involved while another error describes the failure. Keep the complete stack.
Environment and inputs: Oracle Database 19c baseline · SQL*Plus-compatible SQL unless RMAN, DGMGRL, ADRCI or a host shell is specified. Check release, patch level, edition and container first.
Start with this diagnostic
Use the stated SQL, RMAN, DGMGRL or host shell and replace sample names with approved targets. DBA and V$ views need authorized catalog access in the correct container. Do not grant broad privileges for an example.
SELECT owner, db_link, host FROM all_db_links;
Read the result
The metadata helps map the link to its approved remote service. It does not verify the remote database's availability or credentials.
Resolve and verify
Match the accompanying error and time with the remote DBA, then test the narrow dependency through the authorized link workflow.
Operational precautions
Do not recreate the link or rotate credentials before determining whether the remote service or network failed.
