Kubernetes / Pods, Containers & Application Health
Protect slow application startup with the correct probe design
A recovering application can be killed repeatedly before it finishes initializing. Inspect whether startup handling matches measured startup time.
Environment and inputs: Kubernetes · kubectl with supported client/server versions and delegated RBAC. Examples use namespace app unless noted. Check context, namespace, APIs and provider support first.
Start with this check
Confirm the environment and replace sample objects, namespaces, images, paths and hosts with approved targets. Share only relevant, sanitized output. Follow the workload owner’s process for changes.
kubectl -n app get deployment web -o yaml
Read the result
The workload template shows startup, liveness and readiness configuration. The full manifest may contain sensitive operational information and should be reviewed locally.
Resolve and verify
Compare the probe contract with real cold-start and recovery behavior. Design an appropriate startup probe and validate both normal startup and genuine startup failure.
Before changing production
Do not simply extend every timeout indefinitely or declare the application ready before it can accept requests.
