Docker / Compose, Swarm & Production Security
Inspect Swarm manager reachability before a recovery action
A cluster can keep existing tasks running while management loses quorum. Determine membership and reachability before changing managers.
Environment and inputs: Docker Engine · Compose v2 and Buildx where specified; Linux containers unless noted. Verify daemon context, installed feature support and authorized host or Swarm manager access first.
Start with this check
Confirm the environment and replace sample objects, namespaces, images, paths and hosts with approved targets. Share only relevant, sanitized output. Follow the workload owner’s process for changes.
docker node ls
Read the result
Run through an authorized functioning manager. The output provides node and manager status but cannot replace evidence from unreachable members or infrastructure.
Resolve and verify
Compare the intended manager set and network health with the supported quorum recovery procedure. Repair connectivity or follow a coordinated disaster-recovery plan.
Before changing production
Do not force a new cluster or remove several managers independently; competing recovery decisions can worsen state loss.
