Docker / Engine, Containers & Runtime Diagnosis
Interpret Docker memory and CPU observations with platform context
One container snapshot can mislead when limits, caches and host capacity differ. Capture the intended instance's current usage.
Environment and inputs: Docker Engine · Compose v2 and Buildx where specified; Linux containers unless noted. Verify daemon context, installed feature support and authorized host or Swarm manager access first.
Start with this check
Confirm the environment and replace sample objects, namespaces, images, paths and hosts with approved targets. Share only relevant, sanitized output. Follow the workload owner’s process for changes.
docker stats --no-stream app
Read the result
The output reports a point-in-time runtime view. Memory presentation differs by platform and cgroup accounting, and CPU percentages need host-capacity interpretation.
Resolve and verify
Trend the workload through a representative incident interval and correlate limits, restarts and host pressure. Correct the measured application or capacity constraint.
Before changing production
Do not change resource limits from one sample or infer a historical peak from post-restart values.
