Docker / Images, Dockerfiles & Build Reliability

Inspect platform manifests before deploying a multi-architecture image

A tag may not include the OS and architecture required by the target host even when its name looks correct.

Compiled for Sorlavit Kim · Published · Updated · 1 min read

Environment and inputs: Docker Engine · Compose v2 and Buildx where specified; Linux containers unless noted. Verify daemon context, installed feature support and authorized host or Swarm manager access first.

Start with this check

Confirm the environment and replace sample objects, namespaces, images, paths and hosts with approved targets. Share only relevant, sanitized output. Follow the workload owner’s process for changes.

docker buildx imagetools inspect registry.example.com/team/app:release

Read the result

The remote index or manifest shows published platform descriptors where available. A matching platform entry does not validate every embedded executable.

Resolve and verify

Compare the intended daemon platform with verified release variants. Build and publish the supported variant through the release pipeline and test on the target architecture.

Before changing production

Do not force an incompatible platform or assume emulation is an acceptable production performance and support plan.
