Docker / Images, Dockerfiles & Build Reliability
Find a local image before assuming the registry deleted it
An image can be absent from the selected daemon, present under another tag or stored in a different builder context. Inspect local inventory.
Environment and inputs: Docker Engine · Compose v2 and Buildx where specified; Linux containers unless noted. Verify daemon context, installed feature support and authorized host or Swarm manager access first.
Start with this check
Confirm the environment and replace sample objects, namespaces, images, paths and hosts with approved targets. Share only relevant, sanitized output. Follow the workload owner’s process for changes.
docker image ls --digests --no-trunc
Read the result
The listing describes images in the selected Engine image store, not every remote tag or BuildKit cache. Context selection still matters.
Resolve and verify
Compare the intended repository, tag or digest with the active daemon and build output mode. Resolve the correct approved artifact before deployment.
Before changing production
Do not remove existing images or pull an unverified substitute merely because a familiar tag is missing locally.
