Docker / Volumes, Filesystems & Recovery
Keep database backup consistency separate from container availability
A running database container can produce inconsistent file copies if copied outside its supported backup protocol. Map the data before planning recovery.
Environment and inputs: Docker Engine · Compose v2 and Buildx where specified; Linux containers unless noted. Verify daemon context, installed feature support and authorized host or Swarm manager access first.
Start with this check
Confirm the environment and replace sample objects, namespaces, images, paths and hosts with approved targets. Share only relevant, sanitized output. Follow the workload owner’s process for changes.
docker container inspect --format '{{.Config.Image}} {{json .Mounts}}' database
Read the result
The image and mounts identify the runtime artifact and storage scope. They do not establish a valid database backup or compatible recovery version.
Resolve and verify
Coordinate the database-native backup and required log chain, then restore to an isolated compatible environment and validate application-level data and credentials.
Before changing production
Do not treat docker export, a copied writable layer or a live volume tar as proof of database-consistent recovery.
