Docker / Compose, Swarm & Production Security
Validate a Compose model without printing interpolated secrets
A malformed or inconsistent Compose configuration can fail before containers are created. Validate the intended project inputs first.
Environment and inputs: Docker Engine · Compose v2 and Buildx where specified; Linux containers unless noted. Verify daemon context, installed feature support and authorized host or Swarm manager access first.
Start with this check
Confirm the environment and replace sample objects, namespaces, images, paths and hosts with approved targets. Share only relevant, sanitized output. Follow the workload owner’s process for changes.
docker compose config --quiet
Read the result
With Compose v2, this parses and validates the resolved model without normally printing it. It still reads local files and interpolation inputs; successful validation is not a runtime test.
Resolve and verify
Use the same reviewed files, project settings and environment sources as deployment. Correct the reported model problem and validate the actual application rollout separately.
Before changing production
Do not publish the full resolved model when it contains literal credentials or assume validation proves backend availability.
