Check the active Windows firewall profiles
A device can behave differently on a public network and an office network because firewall profiles apply different rules. Inspect profile state alongside the current connection category.
Environment and inputs: Everyday IT support · Windows PowerShell examples unless specified
Try the diagnostic command
Use the stated shell and platform. Replace sample domains, addresses, services and paths with values from the system you are authorized to support.
Get-NetFirewallProfile | Select-Object Name, Enabled, DefaultInboundAction, DefaultOutboundAction
Get-NetConnectionProfile
How to read the result
The first query shows firewall profile settings; the second shows network connection categories. A NotConfigured policy value can require checking effective policy from the managing source.
What to do next
Map the active network to its expected profile and test the specific application's port. Ask the policy owner for a narrow approved correction if a rule is missing.
Before you make a change
Do not disable the firewall to make the symptom disappear. Local settings can be overridden by domain or device-management policy.
