Diagnose a missing DHCP lease without dropping remote access
A newly connected workstation may fail to obtain an address because of a VLAN, relay or DHCP scope issue. Inspect the lease evidence before releasing its current address.
Environment and inputs: Mixed platforms · each example identifies its shell or required tool
Try the diagnostic command
Use the stated shell and platform. Replace sample domains, addresses, services and paths with values from the system you are authorized to support.
ipconfig /all
How to read the result
In Windows Command Prompt, check DHCP Enabled, the DHCP server and lease timing on the active adapter. A manually assigned address needs a different investigation from a failed dynamic lease.
What to do next
Compare a working device on the same port or wireless network, then have the network owner check scope capacity and relay reachability. Renew only the relevant adapter when it is safe to do so.
Before you make a change
Avoid ipconfig /release during remote support unless another access method is available; it can immediately disconnect the session.
