Linux Commands / IT Support Guides
Locate recent files with find
An application may write output to a different directory after a deployment. Search a relevant subtree using time and type filters before expanding the investigation.
Environment and inputs: Linux · Bash-compatible shell; package and service names vary by distribution
Try the diagnostic command
Use the stated shell and platform. Replace sample domains, addresses, services and paths with values from the system you are authorized to support.
find /var/log -type f -mtime -1 -print
How to read the result
The command lists regular files modified within the last day according to find's time calculations. It searches recursively and does not change the files.
What to do next
Use an approved application directory and refine the filename or time range. Inspect likely files with a text viewer and compare their timestamps with the failed operation.
Before you make a change
Permission errors mean parts of the search were not inspected. Do not append deletion actions to a diagnostic search.
