Check server-role prerequisites on the actual Windows installation
A command or service can be missing because its server role or management tools were never installed on this host.
Environment and inputs: Windows Server 2022 / 2025 baseline · Windows PowerShell with the specified role or RSAT modules; native utilities are identified in the text. Use delegated administration and elevation only where required.
Start with this check
Confirm the host, shell and access role. Replace sample names, paths, domains and interfaces with approved targets. These are diagnostic commands; assess policy and workload impact before making changes.
Get-WindowsFeature | Where-Object Installed | Select-Object Name, DisplayName, InstallState
Read the result
With ServerManager, this lists installed features visible on the target server. Management tools and the actual workload role are not always the same installation.
Resolve and verify
Compare the intended role and supported OS edition with deployment records. Add only approved required components through the normal servicing workflow.
Before changing production
Do not install every role or restart the server casually to make a troubleshooting cmdlet available.
