Check AD authorization for a Windows DHCP server
A domain-joined DHCP server may not serve leases when authorization is missing or inconsistent. Confirm its intended identity.
Environment and inputs: Windows Server 2022 / 2025 baseline · Windows PowerShell with the specified role or RSAT modules; native utilities are identified in the text. Use delegated administration and elevation only where required.
Start with this check
Confirm the host, shell and access role. Replace sample names, paths, domains and interfaces with approved targets. These are diagnostic commands; assess policy and workload impact before making changes.
Get-DhcpServerInDC
Read the result
With the DHCP module and appropriate domain access, this lists authorized DHCP servers recorded in Active Directory. It does not prove each one is online or serving the intended subnet.
Resolve and verify
Compare the actual DHCP host name and address with the approved entry and service events. Have the delegated owner correct authorization and validate client leasing.
Before changing production
Do not authorize an unknown server or bypass rogue-DHCP controls to make a test work.
