Linux Server / Boot, systemd & Service Recovery
Inspect the effective systemd unit and its drop-ins
A service can behave differently from the vendor unit because a local override changes its command, identity or dependencies.
Environment and inputs: Linux server baseline · Ubuntu 24.04 LTS / RHEL 9-style systems. Use the specified distribution, init system and installed tool; service names, privileges and supported options can differ.
Start with this check
Confirm the host, shell and access role. Replace sample names, paths, domains and interfaces with approved targets. These are diagnostic commands; assess policy and workload impact before making changes.
systemctl cat app.service
Read the result
Replace the example unit with the intended service. The output shows unit files and drop-ins used for configuration, not all runtime property values.
Resolve and verify
Compare the effective definitions with the approved deployment and systemctl show where necessary. Correct only the relevant managed override and validate the restart plan.
Before changing production
Do not edit package-owned unit files blindly or paste secret-bearing environment content into a ticket.
