Check multipath storage paths before treating a SAN LUN as missing
A multipathed device can remain accessible with one failed path or become unreachable when all paths fail. Inspect the managed map.
Environment and inputs: Linux server baseline · Ubuntu 24.04 LTS / RHEL 9-style systems. Use the specified distribution, init system and installed tool; service names, privileges and supported options can differ.
Start with this check
Confirm the host, shell and access role. Replace sample names, paths, domains and interfaces with approved targets. These are diagnostic commands; assess policy and workload impact before making changes.
multipath -ll
Read the result
On a configured multipath host with suitable privileges, this displays maps, paths and reported states. Vendor and policy semantics need platform-specific interpretation.
Resolve and verify
Compare WWIDs and path status with the approved SAN inventory and storage-controller evidence. Repair the demonstrated fabric or host path through the storage owner.
Before changing production
Do not flush maps or operate directly on a single underlying path device during production diagnosis.
