Linux Server / Boot, systemd & Service Recovery
Find a systemd dependency that blocks application startup
A service may start before a required mount or backend is usable. Inspect declared dependencies and the actual readiness contract.
Environment and inputs: Linux server baseline · Ubuntu 24.04 LTS / RHEL 9-style systems. Use the specified distribution, init system and installed tool; service names, privileges and supported options can differ.
Start with this check
Confirm the host, shell and access role. Replace sample names, paths, domains and interfaces with approved targets. These are diagnostic commands; assess policy and workload impact before making changes.
systemctl list-dependencies app.service --all --no-pager
Read the result
The tree shows unit dependency relationships, not a guarantee that a remote application is ready to accept business requests.
Resolve and verify
Compare unit ordering with the real resource requirement and boot events. Add supported dependency or readiness handling only after verifying the intended service design.
Before changing production
Do not create broad dependency cycles or assume After alone makes a dependency start successfully.
