Windows Server / Hyper-V & Failover Clustering
Investigate a VM VLAN mismatch without changing the whole host
A virtual NIC may be on the correct switch but tagged for the wrong VLAN. Inspect its Hyper-V VLAN settings.
Environment and inputs: Windows Server 2022 / 2025 baseline · Windows PowerShell with the specified role or RSAT modules; native utilities are identified in the text. Use delegated administration and elevation only where required.
Start with this check
Confirm the host, shell and access role. Replace sample names, paths, domains and interfaces with approved targets. These are diagnostic commands; assess policy and workload impact before making changes.
Get-VMNetworkAdapterVlan -VMName 'APP01'
Read the result
The output shows configured access, trunk or untagged behavior for the VM adapters. Guest-side tagging and physical-switch configuration may add another layer.
Resolve and verify
Compare the exact adapter, allowed VLANs and upstream switch design. Correct only the demonstrated mismatch and test from the intended network.
Before changing production
Do not guess VLAN IDs or enable broad trunk access to make one application reachable.
