PLC / Backups, Changes & Commissioning
Check controller replacement compatibility beyond the part family's name
A spare CPU can differ in firmware, memory, communications, licensing or supported modules from the validated machine controller.
Environment and inputs: Industrial PLC / automation guidance · Verify the exact controller, module, firmware, engineering tool and machine documentation. Linked vendor examples apply to their stated products and library versions; observation, state changes and physical work require distinct authorization.
Observe and record
Compare exact order codes, hardware and firmware revisions, project requirements and vendor replacement guidance in the approved maintenance package.
Interpret the evidence
Mechanical fit and a matching family label do not prove the spare can run the validated application and configuration.
Resolve and verify
Have the controls owner qualify the supported replacement and recovery procedure on an isolated target, then perform the authorized machine replacement and acceptance tests.
Machine and data safeguards
Do not transfer a project to an unverified spare connected to live machine outputs.
