PLC / PLC Fundamentals & Fault Diagnosis
Create a PLC diagnostic baseline while the machine is healthy
A fault snapshot is more useful when normal operating mode, task timing and module status are already documented.
Environment and inputs: Industrial PLC / automation guidance · Verify the exact controller, module, firmware, engineering tool and machine documentation. Linked vendor examples apply to their stated products and library versions; observation, state changes and physical work require distinct authorization.
Observe and record
Record approved firmware, program revision, I/O inventory, normal cycle-time ranges and device health during a representative known-good operating period.
Interpret the evidence
Normal variation can depend on recipe, production rate and communication load. One idle baseline cannot represent every production condition.
Resolve and verify
Keep the baseline versioned with the machine and compare future incidents against equivalent operating conditions before changing settings.
Machine and data safeguards
Do not obtain a baseline by forcing signals or moving actuators outside the approved operating procedure.
