Confirm which Oracle database and container a client reached
A successful connection can still land in the wrong database, container or service. Capture server identity before investigating missing tables or permissions.
Environment and inputs: Oracle Database 19c baseline · SQL*Plus-compatible SQL unless RMAN, DGMGRL, ADRCI or a host shell is specified. Check release, patch level, edition and container first.
Start with this diagnostic
Use the stated SQL, RMAN, DGMGRL or host shell and replace sample names with approved targets. DBA and V$ views need authorized catalog access in the correct container. Do not grant broad privileges for an example.
SELECT SYS_CONTEXT('USERENV','DB_NAME') AS db_name, SYS_CONTEXT('USERENV','CON_NAME') AS con_name, SYS_CONTEXT('USERENV','SERVICE_NAME') AS service_name, SYS_CONTEXT('USERENV','SESSION_USER') AS session_user FROM dual;
Read the result
The values describe this session's target and authenticated account. CURRENT_SCHEMA can differ from SESSION_USER and does not change the authenticated identity.
Resolve and verify
Compare these values with the application's intended environment and service catalog. Correct a misrouted descriptor before granting privileges or creating objects.
Operational precautions
Avoid sharing internal database names publicly. A familiar service label alone is not sufficient verification of the environment.
