Storage control and data paths with different availability
A management dashboard responds while applications cannot read data, leading operators to declare the storage service healthy. Control and data endpoints can survive different failures.
Environment and inputs: Ceph and storage transport dependencies; match health identifiers and recovery behavior to the installed release. Diagnostic/design example; not tested on production equipment.
Collect the evidence
Map management APIs, monitor services, client data paths and administrative networks. Use representative application I/O alongside component health to locate which part of the service is actually available.
Explain the result
Control-plane responsiveness is necessary for some operations but is not sufficient evidence of data availability. Independent networks and caches can preserve the dashboard while the payload path fails.
Plan the fix
Define health checks for discovery, authorization, data access and required consistency separately. Repair the failing path without using a management response as a substitute for end-to-end evidence.
Check the result and rollback
Verify read/write completion from each intended client network and during a relevant component failure. Revert health-rule changes if they declare success while required data operations remain unavailable.
