Runtime networking fixes lost after interface renewal
An emergency routing or MTU correction works until a network manager renews the interface. Runtime commands and the host's persistent desired configuration are out of sync.
Environment and inputs: Linux network namespaces, host routing and network drivers; availability and semantics depend on kernel and driver versions. Diagnostic/design example; not tested on production equipment.
Collect the evidence
Compare active routes, rules and link settings with generated configuration, orchestration data and manager ownership. Record what event recreates the previous state and which component performs it.
Explain the result
Several tools can manage the same network objects. A runtime correction is temporary when another owner later reapplies conflicting desired state, even if the initial command succeeded.
Plan the fix
Update the authoritative configuration and remove competing ownership through a reviewed rollout. Keep a tested recovery path when applying persistent changes to the interface carrying administration.
Check the result and rollback
Validate renewal, service restart and a controlled reboot where authorized. Restore the previous persistent definition if management access or workload routing fails, then resolve ownership before retrying.
