Investigate a StatefulSet waiting for an earlier ordinal
Ordered StatefulSet behavior can prevent later Pods from progressing while an earlier Pod is unhealthy. Inspect controller and Pod readiness.
Environment and inputs: Kubernetes · kubectl with supported client/server versions and delegated RBAC. Examples use namespace app unless noted. Check context, namespace, APIs and provider support first.
Start with this check
Confirm the environment and replace sample objects, namespaces, images, paths and hosts with approved targets. Share only relevant, sanitized output. Follow the workload owner’s process for changes.
kubectl -n app describe statefulset database
Read the result
The description shows desired replicas, update state and template context. Inspect the affected ordinals and their storage or application errors separately.
Resolve and verify
Repair the first blocking Pod's verified dependency and confirm normal ordered progress. Review ordering policy only with the application's clustering requirements.
Before changing production
Do not bypass ordering or force-delete database Pods without understanding quorum, identity and storage safety.
