Kubernetes / Services, DNS & Traffic Routing
Find a Service selector that matches no application Pods
A Service object can exist and have an IP while selecting the wrong labels. Compare its selector with the actual Pod labels.
Environment and inputs: Kubernetes · kubectl with supported client/server versions and delegated RBAC. Examples use namespace app unless noted. Check context, namespace, APIs and provider support first.
Start with this check
Confirm the environment and replace sample objects, namespaces, images, paths and hosts with approved targets. Share only relevant, sanitized output. Follow the workload owner’s process for changes.
kubectl -n app get service web -o yaml
kubectl -n app get pods --show-labels
Read the result
The Service selector and namespaced labels show intended matching. A matching Pod still needs eligible endpoint readiness and correct application ports.
Resolve and verify
Correct label or selector drift in the managed resources, then inspect EndpointSlices and test the intended service request.
Before changing production
Do not broaden selectors to unrelated Pods or change labels without reviewing other controllers and policies.
