Kubernetes / Cluster Operations, Access & Incident Response

Capture Kubernetes object identity for a reproducible support handoff

Pod names can be reused while replacements have different UIDs and container attempts. Preserve identity with the incident timestamp.

Environment and inputs: Kubernetes · kubectl with supported client/server versions and delegated RBAC. Examples use namespace app unless noted. Check context, namespace, APIs and provider support first.

Start with this check

Confirm the environment and replace sample objects, namespaces, images, paths and hosts with approved targets. Share only relevant, sanitized output. Follow the workload owner’s process for changes.

kubectl -n app get pod web-0 -o jsonpath='{.metadata.uid}{" "}{.metadata.resourceVersion}{" "}{.spec.nodeName}'

Read the result

UID identifies this object instance; resourceVersion is an API concurrency token, not an application release or a universally comparable timestamp.

Resolve and verify

Record context, namespace, owner, UID, container and observed error with bounded sanitized logs. State what changed and the next specific question before escalation.

Before changing production

Do not claim that a later Pod with the same name is the original failing instance or share raw credentials in the handoff.
