Docker / Networking, Ports & Service Connectivity
Remember that a remote Docker daemon publishes ports on its own host
A local CLI can create or inspect containers on a remote endpoint. Testing localhost on the operator's laptop can therefore target the wrong machine.
Environment and inputs: Docker Engine · Compose v2 and Buildx where specified; Linux containers unless noted. Verify daemon context, installed feature support and authorized host or Swarm manager access first.
Start with this check
Confirm the environment and replace sample objects, namespaces, images, paths and hosts with approved targets. Share only relevant, sanitized output. Follow the workload owner’s process for changes.
docker context ls
docker container port app
Read the result
The selected endpoint and published binding identify where to investigate. Client-side port-forwarding or Desktop behavior can add separate layers.
Resolve and verify
Use the approved remote host path and firewall design for a harmless application test. Correct documentation or context rather than republishing the service unnecessarily.
Before changing production
Do not expose a remote administration endpoint publicly or assume a local port test certifies a remote container.
