Docker / Networking, Ports & Service Connectivity
Explain ignored port publication under host networking
A container using host networking shares a different network context from bridge mode. Its port behavior is not ordinary host-port NAT.
Environment and inputs: Docker Engine · Compose v2 and Buildx where specified; Linux containers unless noted. Verify daemon context, installed feature support and authorized host or Swarm manager access first.
Start with this check
Confirm the environment and replace sample objects, namespaces, images, paths and hosts with approved targets. Share only relevant, sanitized output. Follow the workload owner’s process for changes.
docker container inspect --format '{{.HostConfig.NetworkMode}} {{json .HostConfig.PortBindings}}' app
Read the result
The values show requested network mode and binding configuration. Supported host networking differs between native Linux and optional Desktop implementations.
Resolve and verify
Compare the platform's documented behavior with the intended application listener and exposure policy. Choose an approved network model and verify real bindings.
Before changing production
Do not select host mode simply to avoid understanding a Service connection problem or assume bridge isolation remains intact.
