Docker / Engine, Containers & Runtime Diagnosis
Validate Docker daemon configuration without starting another daemon
A malformed configuration can prevent the next Engine restart. Use the installed daemon's validation mode before maintenance.
Environment and inputs: Docker Engine · Compose v2 and Buildx where specified; Linux containers unless noted. Verify daemon context, installed feature support and authorized host or Swarm manager access first.
Start with this check
Confirm the environment and replace sample objects, namespaces, images, paths and hosts with approved targets. Share only relevant, sanitized output. Follow the workload owner’s process for changes.
dockerd --validate --config-file=/etc/docker/daemon.json
Read the result
On a supporting Linux Engine installation, this validates the selected configuration and exits. It does not prove storage, network or runtime dependencies will work.
Resolve and verify
Correct syntax or incompatible options in the managed configuration, then use the host owner's planned restart and rollback procedure. Validate existing workloads afterward.
Before changing production
Do not launch a second daemon against the production data root or change several unrelated options during one incident.
