2026 Planning / 2026 Essentials
Review the Whole AI Supply Chain Before Signing Up
Vendor review should cover data, models, software, infrastructure, and connected services.
Environment and inputs: One supplier service description, its requested integration permissions and a data-flow and responsibility worksheet.
The March 2026 joint guidance published by NCSC describes an AI supply chain spanning data, models, software, infrastructure, and third-party services. Reviewing only the chatbot’s brand leaves important dependencies unexplored. Map the system and identify where your business information and operational responsibilities move.
What matters
- Ask which providers and components process or retain business information.
- Record security responsibilities, update arrangements, and dependency ownership.
- Consider how the service can be replaced or disconnected if its risk becomes unacceptable.
Practical example: A buyer reviews an AI meeting tool’s transcription provider, storage arrangements, and integrations before connecting company accounts.
One action today: Ask one AI supplier for a component and data-flow overview.
