Windows Lifecycle Planning Still Matters in 2026

Identify unsupported devices and plan a supported operating-system path.

Microsoft lists 14 October 2025 as the end of standard support for Windows 10 Home and Pro. In 2026, organisations should check the exact edition and support arrangement of remaining devices. LTSC editions and separately obtained extended security coverage have different conditions; do not assume every Windows 10 installation has identical support.

What matters

  • Inventory operating-system editions, hardware compatibility, and application dependencies.
  • Verify support eligibility and dates for each device instead of relying on a general product name.
  • Plan migration, replacement, or an appropriate supported transition arrangement with its own review date.

Practical example: An office tests a critical printing application on a supported workstation before scheduling the remaining device migrations.

One action today: List devices still running Windows 10 and verify each device’s actual update coverage.
